I climbed my first tower in 1989 and my last tower in 2017. It was a wild ride, taking me to all 48 lower states, to the cities, suburbs, tank towns and rural wilderness. I met fascinating people both on and off the job and I wouldn’t trade the experience for the world. But around 2007 when the deaths of two tower techs came a little bit close to home, I realized there was something seriously awry in this industry. And that is why I wrote my book Tower Dog: Life Inside the Deadliest Job in America, published in 2017. I wanted to make a difference and since then the only platform where I have found that may be possible is Tommy Schuch’s brainchild, the Climber Protection Group.
