The Price of Eggs and 12 String Guitars
My chickens have been laying eggs faithfully even admidst the brutal winter weather we are experiencing. We plan on using egg money to get a 12 string guitar. I have not had one in years and just love how they sound. Sadly, I don’t have any recordings of my stuff using a 12 string, just a six. But when I get together with Dan Hermreck and his mandolin, it kind of sounds like a 12. At least I think so in this song. So thank you to all you wonderful laying hens and also to Mandolin Dan. And when I get my 12 string, I will show you just what eggs can do.
This song is about that last train home.
Back in "the day" I spent way too many hours stranded in Penn Station in NYC, after racing 20 blocks to catch the 12.01 A.M. to Huntington, and not making it. Miss that sucker and you were stuck for the night. And I'd sit as the stores and food stands in the station closed up and half the lights would go off and they'd lock the bathrooms and the legions of homeless people, who were kept out of the station for most of the day, were allowed in to keep warm or cool. And that's what this song is about.
This is a live version recorded at Kansas Public Radio quite some time ago, with me and Mandolin Dan Hermreck, a true partner in crime. Hope you like it. Oh, by the way, I wrote this song and it’s called Pennsylvania Station.
Love this song!
